Stanford Grad Student Arrested For Alleged Sex Assault At Campus Housing

BREAKING: The arrest came within a week of a reported rape at a different housing complex.

PALO ALTO, CA – A Stanford University graduate student was arrested last month for sexually assaulting a woman at an on-campus residential building, according to the college's Department of Public Safety.

The male suspect, who hasn't been identified, allegedly assaulted a woman who didn't attend the school on Sept. 24 at the Lyman Graduate Residence on Campus Drive, department spokesman William Larson said.

The suspect and victim were dating one another when the alleged assault occurred, Larson said.

The man was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose, according to Larson. The case was sent to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office to determine if any charges will be filed.

University officials didn't issue a community warning about the incident since the arrest meant the suspect wouldn't be an ongoing threat, according to Larson.

The arrest came within a week of a reported rape at student housing facility on the east side of campus on Sept. 30, public safety officials said.

The victim told campus security a male suspect she didn't recognize raped her during the early morning hours, according to public safety officials.

No other details about the suspect in the reported rape have been released.
