UPDATE: Caltrain Experiences Severe Delays After Death Of Male On Tracks

Backup is in both directions. This is the seventh track-related fatality in 2014.

Caltrain is still experiencing delays of more than an hour in the northbound direction and more than 40 minutes in the southbound direction following a fatal collision in Palo Alto earlier this evening.

Southbound train 264 reported the initial incident near Charleston Avenue at 5:40 p.m., according to Caltrain officials.

The deceased appears to be an adult male, but his age remains unknown.

The involved train has been released from the scene and has dropped its passengers off where they can be picked up by the next southbound train.

This is the 7th fatality this year, according to Caltrain officials. Caltrain averages 14 fatalities a year, and 90 percent of those are eventually ruled a suicide.
