UPDATE: Caltrain Service Restored After Fatality

Caltrain service has been restored following a pedestrian death at the Atherton station today, but passengers should expect ongoing delays.

A northbound train struck the man today at 2:56 p.m. in what officials said is Caltrain’s 12th fatality of the year. A preliminary investigation indicated the death was an intentional act, Caltrain officials said. There were approximately 400 people on board the train at the time of the accident, Caltrain officials said.

The collision caused delays of up to 90 minutes as trains ran on a single track through the area.

A SamTrans bus bridge was deployed to accommodate passengers between the Menlo Park and Redwood City stations during the incident but was canceled at 4:35 p.m. Trains do not stop at the Atherton station on weekdays, Caltrain officials said.
