Who Are the Web's Most Social Publishers?

Palo Alto's ShareThis reveals some new research that points out the value of social engagement.

ShareThis - a Palo Alto company that claims it offers one of the largest platforms for sharing and influence across the Web - released on Thursday a list of the top ranking sites on its Social Quality Index in the categories of travel, sports and fashion.

The ShareThis metric allows web publishers and advertisers to gauge social engagement for the Web and compare it to page views.

By ranking publishers based on the power of their social audiences, content can be contrasted against the broader measure of social quality.

The rankings reveal the benefits of rich content and audience engagement over sheer scale, identify users with higher purchase intent and pinpoint users who are more inclined to disseminate content widely.

"In essence, the SQI levels the playing field for publishers," said Kurt Abrahamson, CEO of ShareThis. "Just because a site is small in terms of its reach doesn't mean it doesn't stack up when it comes to social activity. In fact, some of our smallest publisher partners have the most loyal, and social, audiences."

Here are the lists of publishers that scored at the top of ShareThis' SQI:
