Woman In Her 70s Killed In Downtown Palo Alto Crash

The collision at the intersection of Lytton Avenue and Waverley Street was reported Thursday at around 10:40 a.m., police said.

PALO ALTO, CA – A woman in her seventies was killed after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Palo Alto Thursday morning, police said.

The collision at the intersection of Lytton Avenue and Waverley Street was reported at around 10:40 a.m., police said.

The woman was walking eastbound on the south side of Lytton Avenue and was in the crosswalk and crossing Waverley Street when the driver of a Honda Fit made a left turn to head southbound on Waverley Street and fatally struck the pedestrian.

Officers and Palo Alto Fire Department personnel responded immediately, and paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital. She died shortly afterwards.

The Honda driver, who police said was an Oakland woman in her thirties, remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators. She was uninjured.

Police are not releasing the pedestrian’s identity.

Police do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. The driver has not been cited or arrested pending the outcome of the investigation.
