Free Movies, Concerts, Art Shows Return To Redwood City This Summer

Courthouse Square will host weekly movies, live music, art markets and soccer watch parties through September.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Free outdoor movies, concerts, art shows and soccer watch parties are returning to Courthouse Square as Redwood City's popular "On the Square" summer series kicks off.

The free events run through early September, offering weekly entertainment ranging from blockbuster films and live music to local artists and international soccer broadcasts.

Movies on the Square returns every Thursday through Sept. 3 with family films beginning at 6 p.m. followed by feature movies at 8:30 p.m. July's lineup includes Elio and Raiders of the Lost Ark on July 2, Shrek and A Minecraft Movie on July 16, a BraveMaker Film Festival short and Superman on July 23, and Zootopia 2 and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning on July 30. The BraveMaker Film Festival also will be featured July 9.

Music on the Square continues Fridays through Sept. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring free performances by Sounds of Skynyrd, Native Elements, Careless Whisper and Mercy and the Heartbeats throughout July.

Art on the Square celebrates its 20th anniversary with outdoor art markets on July 10 and July 24, showcasing paintings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, glasswork and other handcrafted works by regional artists. The final event of the season is scheduled for Aug. 28.

Fans can also gather for Soccer on the Square, with free watch parties for select international matches, including knockout-round games, semifinals, the third-place match and the championship on July 19. Watch parties include beer and wine gardens, climbing walls, lawn games, slacklines and children's activities.

Organizers encourage visitors to bring lawn chairs or blankets for concerts and to arrive early for movie nights, as seating is limited.
