Police are urging people to use caution after a woman was bitten by a rattlesnake at the Paseo Del Campo open space in Palos Verdes Estates.
The woman was bitten around 6 pm on April 17 while picking flowers in parkland near the 3100 block of Paseo Del Campo, the PVE Police Department said April 20.
She was then transported to a local hospital for treatment. Patch has reached out to authorities for an update on her condition.
"Rattlesnake bites are rare, but sightings can increase during warmer months," Palos Verdes Estates police said in a statement. "Please use caution while enjoying local open spaces and coastal trails."
People who are out walking or hiking should stay on established trails, keep pets leashed, and be mindful near rocks, brush and tall grass, experts say.
Anyone who sees a snake should give it plenty of space and allow it to move away on its own.
If bitten by a rattlesnake, remain calm, limit movement, and call 911 immediately. Do not apply ice or heat, cut the bite, attempt to remove venom, or use a tourniquet.
