On Thursday, January 23, 2014, a Celebration of Artists was held at the new ER and Surgical Wing of the Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Several local Palos Verdes Peninsula artists were among those being honored that night. The state-of-the-art wing is scheduled to open in a few months.
Painter Phyllis Ferrara's sunsets grace the main hallway on either end. Doctor Morris Asch's photographs are displayed in the adult ER hallways. Fiber artist Ellen November's whimsical fish art quilts are hung there as well. Painter Don Crocker, who has a show currently at the PV Art Center, was also very generous with his stunning paintings.
The reception included an impressive jazz band comprised of a doctor, a nurse and a third hospital employee. A lovely food and beverage buffet, and bright flowers were there to honor the 100+ artists.
The serene and uplifting art will bring a welcome distraction to all who will visit the hospital.
