“Catalina Island Museum is honored to receive a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for the second year in a row,” said Julie Perlin Lee, Executive Director of the Catalina Island Museum. “This certification is a testament to our dedicated staff, board, and volunteers. Now more than ever, it is important our donors trust that we are using their donations in alignment to strengthen and execute our mission of presenting the finest exhibitions and programs to our members and visitors.”

Since 2002, using objective analysis, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating based on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness. Charity Navigator helps guide intelligent giving by evaluating an organization’s practices the way it executes its mission in a financially efficient manner. These Accountability & Transparency metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders.

Attaining a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator verifies that Catalina Island Museum exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in its areas of work. Only 32% of charities evaluated by Charity Navigator have received at least 2 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Catalina Island Museum outperforms most other charities in America.

In addition to the 4-star Charity Navigator rating, Catalina Island Museum continues to hold the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Guidestar, the world’s largest source of information on non-profit organizations. This is the highest level of transparency on the GuideStar directory and recognizes a nonprofit organization’s commitment to providing information about its vision, mission, leadership, finances, goals and strategies and the metrics it uses to fulfill its mission.
