Elderly Man Pleads Guilty To Murdering Wife In San Pedro

He believed his wife was having an affair, the prosecutor said.

PALOS VERDES, CA – A 77-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing his wife in the couple's San Pedro home two years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced. George Matsumoto pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and the special allegation of using a firearm under to commit the murder, an enhancement that adds time to his sentence.

On Jan. 14, 2015, a family member contacted police and asked for a welfare check for Mary Matsumoto, 72, who had not been heard from for several days. When authorities arrived at the couple's home, they found the victim in a bed and she had been shot three times in the head, the prosecutor said.

The defendant was in the home and was arrested. He believed his wife was having an affair, the prosecutor added.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 12 when he is expected to receive 19 years to life in state prison. Deputy District Attorney Kelly Kelley prosecuted the case.
