The Quintessential Winds are a group of young professional musicians dedicated to expanding the traditional woodwind quintet repertoire by commissioning new works and expanding into other genres such as Latin, jazz, blues, classic rock, and popular standards. The quintet is also dedicated to reaching new audiences by playing in non-traditional venues, giving educational concerts to all ages, and encouraging and inspiring young musicians to get involved in chamber music. This last year they were semi-finalists in Plowman Chamber Music Competition, winners of the Beverly Hills Audition, and are featured on the L.A. County Arts Commission's Musician Roaster. Most recently in March 2012, they played at the National Association of Saxophone Alliance National Convention in Tempe, AZ premiering Stray, a commissioned work by Laura Kramer for Wind Quintet and Alto Saxophone.
