St. Luke's Presbyterian Church's Free Garden Concerts

Garden Concert The first of St. Luke's
Presbyterian Church's free Garden Concerts in 2012 will take place on Sunday,
June 24, 5:00 - 7:00 pm at 26825 Rolling Hills Road, Rolling Hills Estates. The
Vientos Trio formed in 2008 by Jennifer Stevenson (clarinet), Ryan Zwahlen
(oboe), and Michael Kreiner (bassoon) perform chamber music with heart, excel at
audience interaction, and were winners at the 2011 Beverly Hills Auditions.
Hailed as "accomplished" and "like race horses waiting at
the gate" by composer John Adams, the performers of the virtuosic and musically
sensitive Vientos Trio are among Southern California's top young musicians, who
have performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, LA Ballet,
among countless other orchestras. Everyone is invited to come early to picnic.

Garden Concert The second of St. Luke's
Presbyterian Church's free Garden Concerts in 2012 will take place on Sunday,
July 29, 5:00 - 7:00 pm at 26825 Rolling Hills Road, Rolling Hills Estates.
Founded in 1995, the Firebird Balalaika Quartet has built a reputation as a
unique, dynamic and accomplished chamber ensemble performing on traditional
Russian instruments.The quartet features Iryna Orlova (domra, a
round version of the balalaika), Anatoliy Mamalyga (bayan, a kind of accordion),
Peter Rothe (balalaika), and Tom Barnes (contrabass balalaika). The
quartet’s repertoire ranges from traditional Russian and Eastern European songs,
to well known classics and contemporary works. Most Americans will remember
"Lara's Theme" from the movie, Dr. Zhivago. Everyone is invited to come

Garden Concert The third of St. Luke's
Presbyterian Church's free Garden Concerts in 2012 will take place on
Sunday, August 26, 5:00 - 7:00 pm at 26825 Rolling Hills Road, Rolling Hills
Estates. The Quintessential Winds, originally formed as the University Wind
Quintet at the Bob Cole Conservatory of California State University, Long Beach,
while having performed much of the standard quintet repertoire, are committed to
promoting and performing the music of new composers. Featured are Katherine Cox
(flute), Maralynne Mann (oboe), Mark Alpizar (clarinet), Adrian Dunker (horn),
and Elizabeth Gutierrez (bassoon). The Quintessential Winds are on the
Musician's Roster of the Los Angeles Arts Commission and were winners at the
2011 Beverly Hills Audition. The members of the quintet are freelance musicians
in Los Angeles and Orange counties with many competition winning students.
