Outstanding High School Cadets To Be Awarded Prestigious DAR ROTC Medals

The Point Vicente Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will host an Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 18, 2015.

The Awards Ceremony takes place from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM in the Community Room at the Peninsula Center Library, 700 Silver Spur Rd. in Rolling Hills. The prestigious ROTC bronze medal award is given to cadets from the following participating schools:

Gardena High School Army JROTC, San Pedro High School Air Force JROTC, Carson High School Marine Corps JROTC, Narbonne High School Navy JROTC. The Outstanding Cadet Medals (given to non-ROTC units) will be awarded to the Long Beach Division Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Haven Division Naval Sea Cadet Corps and the Torrance Civil Air Patrol Cadet Unit.

ROTC Medals are awarded to student cadets of outstanding ability and achievement in high school ROTC programs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. The Outstanding Cadet Medals are awarded to the Naval Sea Cadet Units and the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Units. Medal recipients are selected by professors of military science and the principals of the schools.

· Recipients must have demonstrated loyalty and patriotism and earned a record of military and scholastic achievement during their participation in a ROTC program.

· Students must be in the upper 25% of their classes in ROTC and in academic subjects.

· They must have shown qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of ROTC training.

The guest speaker at this event is Lt. Col. Mark Williams from the Torrance Civil Air Patrol (CAP) discussing the role of CAP with today’s youth.
