Palos Verdes Lacrosse Looks to Keep Costa at Bay

Palos Verdes and Mira Costa's boys lacrosse teams will face off Wednesday.

In its domination of the South Bay Lacrosse League throughout the past two seasons, Palos Verdes boys lacrosse has 21 straight league victories.

Last year, the Sea Kings were undefeated league champions and they're headed for the same success this season. All that really stands in their way is one more game against arch-rival Mira Costa on Wednesday.

This long-time rivalry between the two South Bay powerhouses is so intense that last season's bragging rights were inconclusive. Palos Verdes won both league matches, but Costa avenged those losses later by defeating the Sea Kings 12-10 to win the U.S. Boys Lacrosse Southern Section Championships.

In their previous match this season, the Sea Kings traveled to Mira Costa and continued their streak by winning a hard-fought 12-11 victory on a last-minute goal by Jake Macer.

So this is more than just another game. It is Mira Costs's last chance to stop PV's winning streak and to have any chance of winning this year's league title.
