Palos Verdes Number One for Skechers Walk Fundraiser
Peninsula Education Foundation rallied the community to help support important programs in PVPUSD schools
The Skechers Foundation has announced that PEF will be presented with a check for $240,000 based on the number of participants representing the Palos Verdes Peninsula for the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk. The Peninsula Education Foundation (PEF) signed up nearly 4,300 participants, more than any other education foundation in the South Bay. The walk, which took place October 25th, benefits local education foundations like PEF, as well as The Friendship Circle which provides services for children and young adults with special needs.
The walk proceeds will help the PEF reach its unprecedented $3.4 million goal for the 2015-2016 school year. These funds go directly to the PVP school district to support additional teaching positions, important STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs, music, academic and safe school counseling, P.E. instruction, library aides, academic counselors and college and career center staff. These critical programs would be discontinued if not for donations to PEF due to the lack of state funding which does not allocate enough resources to help our schools and students achieve academic excellence our community has come to expect.
For those who missed the walk, but would still like to support the Peninsula Education Foundation, donations can be made at www.pvpef.org or by calling 310.378.2278.
