Popular Coffee Chain Closing Stores In The South Bay: Report

The chain operates more than 250 locations across the country.

PALOS VERDES, CA — Peet's Coffee is getting ready to close several stores across California, including two in the South Bay, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

A spokesperson at Peet's Coffee confirmed the closures to the Chronicle and said they reflected a "broader effort to align our business with long-term growth priorities and current market conditions."

Many locations are set to close by the end of the month, including the locations in Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach, according to the report.

The report suggests a total of 27 stores will be closing. Peet's Coffee managers who spoke with San Francisco Chronicle reporters said about 30 shops just in the Bay Area were expected to close, including one in Cole Valley and another in the Castro.

The move comes months after another coffee chain, Starbucks, announced it would be closing dozens of stores across California, including 43 in the Bay Area.

The first Peet's Coffee opened in 1966 in Berkeley. It has since expanded into 250 Peet's Coffee stores nationwide, with the majority located in California. Today, the company is headquartered in Emeryville.
