Waterspout Spotted Off the Palos Verde Coast

Two pilots reported waterspouts off the coast, and a big thunderstorm has prompted waterspout warnings.

A pilot reported spotting one funnel cloud 25 miles west-southwest of Redondo Beach Sunday night as a thunderstorm off the coast prompted warnings of additional water spouts.

The National Weather service radar spotted a big thunderstorm off Malibu’s Point Dume just before 8:30 tonight, and warned it could produce a waterspout. The dangerous storm was centered 10 miles southeast of Point Dume.

That came several hours after airplane pilots radioed in reports of funnel clouds they spotted off the coast of Los Angeles tonight.
