Oakland Raider Charged In Pasadena Assault

LOS ANGELES – An Oakland Raiders player has been charged with assault in Los Angeles County for allegedly beating a man and stomping on his head last month in Pasadena, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said Thursday.
Sean Smith, a cornerback for the Raiders, was charged with felony assault and felony battery with serious bodily injury for the July 4 incident, which occurred near Arroyo Parkway and Colorado Boulevard, according to prosecutors.
The victim was Smith's sister's boyfriend.

According to jail records, Smith was arrested earlier Thursday in Los Angeles County and booked into jail and was being held on $80,000 bail.
Smith is set to be arraigned on Sept. 29 in Los Angeles County Superior Court. If convicted, Smith could face up to seven years in prison, prosecutors said.

Smith is a Pasadena native and attended William Blair High School. He is an eight-year NFL veteran, playing four years with the Miami Dolphins and three years with the Kansas City Chiefs before joining the Raiders last season.
He played three seasons of college ball at the University of Utah, beginning as a wide receiver before transitioning to cornerback.
There was no immediate response to a request for comment from the Raiders. The team is scheduled to play the Los Angeles Rams in a preseason game Saturday in Oakland.
