'Wonder Women' and Comic Book Heroines Featured in KPCC Event
The portrayal of women in comic books will be the topic of a Thursday event hosted by Pasadena's public radio station.

KPCC's Crawford Family Forum and Community Cinema will present a screening of "Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines," which tells of the evolution and legacy of comic book character Wonder Woman and how popular representations of powerful women reflect on society's anxieties about women's liberation.
A conversation asking "What is the function of a superheroine?" will follow with Madeline Di Nonno, executive director of The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media; Noelene Clark, writer and producer of the Los Angeles Times pop culture blog "Hero Complex"; Mike Madrid, author of "The Supergirls: Fashion, Feminism, Fantasy and the History of Comic Book Heroines"; and Zoe Chevat, artist and contributing writer to "The Mary Sue," which bills itself as a geek site for women.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; program at 7 p.m. The Crawford Family Forum, 474 S. Raymond Ave. Contact: KPCC, (626) 583-5100.
