Petaluma Police Investigate 2 Deaths As Possible Heroin Overdoses

The deaths happened Sunday and Monday in Petaluma, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — The deaths of two Petaluma residents within the last two days are being investigated as possible heroin overdoses, police said. The first death involved a 19-year-old man and happened Sunday at a residence in the 800 block of Lakeville Circle. The second death involved a 67-year-old man and happened early Monday morning at a residence in the 100 bock of Magnolia Avenue, according to a Petaluma Police Department news release.

In the case of the 19-year-old, officers were dispatched at 11:11 a.m. Sunday after the young man's roommate on Lakeville Circle called police to report a possible drug overdose. The female roommate told officers she was concerned because her roommate was locked in his bedroom and did not answer when she asked him to open his door, police said.

Officers kicked in the bedroom door and found the 19-year-old, who was not breathing and had no pulse. Although officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived a short time later, none of their efforts to revive the man were successful, police said.

Officers arrived and administered a second dose of Narcan and began CPR until paramedics arrived shortly after to continue lifesaving efforts, police said, but the man could not be revived.

Syringes were located at the Magnolia Avenue residence but officers found no additional drug paraphernalia, police said.

The bodies of both men were taken to the Sonoma County sheriff-coroner's office where their cause of death will be determined.

Petaluma police were still investigating the cases Monday evening and did not release the identities of the deceased.
