2 Mountain Lions Spotted In Sebastopol: Police

A community member reported seeing the mountain lions in the downtown area, police said.

SEBASTOPOL, CA — The Sebastopol Police Department warned residents Wednesday that two small mountain lions were seen Tuesday night in the city's downtown area. Police were alerted at about midnight that the wild cats were spotted in the area of Healdsburg Avenue and North Main Street.

Police said pets in areas where mountain lions have been seen may be at risk.

"With this sighting, the Sebastopol Police Department wants to remind people to be aware of what is around them, especially at night," police said in a Nixle alert Wednesday morning.

Although mountain lion sightings are not frequent within Sebastopol city limits, it is not necessarily unusual because the city is next to an open county area, police said.

"If you see a wild animal, including mountain lions, give them space and slowly leave the area," police said.

Additionally, anyone who sees a mountain lion should notify their local law enforcement agency, Sebastopol police said.

Last week, the Napa County Sheriff's Office said two mountain lion sightings were reported within 18 hours near the Napa County Airport.
