3 Pets Dead In Petaluma House Fire Saturday

The resident of a burning single-story home in Petaluma was able to escape to safety Saturday, but three pets inside of the apartment died.

PETALUMA, CA — The resident of a burning single-story home in Petaluma was able to escape to safety Saturday, but three pets inside of the apartment died, the Petaluma Fire Department reported Sunday.

Firefighters were dispatched to the residence on 10th Street, between B and D streets, on Saturday and arrived within five minutes, according to authorities.

The electrical service line to the house "became compromised" during the fire, falling into the street and blocking a portion of the road, authorities said.

"Crews used extreme caution to prevent injuries to themselves and the public as they worked diligently to extinguish the fire," authorities said.

While the resident of the house was able to escape, firefighters were unable to save three pets inside of the home. According to authorities, the structure took heavy damage with losses exceeding $250,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
