Arrest Made In Fatal Sebastopol Stabbing

Anthony William Ibach, 18, is suspected of fatally stabbing Cory Alan Vaughn, 19, after in a fight after a disturbance at a house party.

NORTH BAY, CA — An arrest has been made in the fatal stabbing Saturday of a 19-year-old Sebastopol man. Anthony William Ibach, 18, of Sebastopol, was taken into custody in San Rafael in connection with the death of Cory Alan Vaughn, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office reported.

Vaughn was found suffering from "significant" stab wounds at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday in a parking lot on Bodega Avenue, near West Hills Circle, according to a Sebastopol Police Department statement.

Officers and other emergency personnel were dispatched in response to 911 calls about a stabbing at the location and arrived to find someone described as an associate of Vaughn performing CPR on him. Police said medics also tried resuscitating Vaughn but were not able to.

Vaughn died at the scene.

Officers learned from witnesses that a fight had broken out in the downtown parking lot after disturbance at a nearby house party, police said.

Witnesses told investigators that Ibach had "fought with the victim in the lot and stabbed him during the altercation," police said.

Authorities began looking for Ibach, who was said to driven away from the scene in a burgundy BMW sedan.

Sonoma County jail records show Ibach was booked at 1:11 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of homicide.

He was being held without bail Monday pending a court appearance scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The fatal incident happened less than an hour after the town's annual Apple Blossom Parade conclude, The Press-Democrat pointed out in a report.

Sebastopol police Chief James Conner told the newspaper Ibach was known to police before Saturday and had multiple contacts with officers in the past.
