Big-Rig Hauling Wine Crashes On Highway 116

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A Sig-alert was in effect for several hours Thursday on state Highway 116 at the site of a crash involving a big-rig east of Petaluma at Lakeville Highway and Old Adobe Road, according to California Highway Patrol. At about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, a semi-truck hauling wine bottles went off the road, overturned and hit a power pole, CHP dispatchers reported.

Cases of wine containing an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 bottles of wine spilled out of the truck, CHP reports indicated.

Minor injuries were suffered in the crash that "completely blocked" the roadway, dispatchers said.

Just before 2 p.m., authorities reported that all lanes of SR-116 were being reopened.
