Car Burglars Hit 2 Petaluma Neighborhoods, Police Say

At least two cars were reported stolen. Other residents reported their cars were broken into and belongings were taken.

PETALUMA, CA — Two cars were stolen from the Kenilworth neighborhood earlier this week, and at least two other cars were burglarized, prompting the Petaluma Police Department to remind residents to lock their car doors and to not leave valuables in their cars.

"Sometime between Sunday night and early Monday morning unknown suspects, stole items from two unlocked vehicles on Hartman and Sestri Lanes and vehicles were stolen on Heather and Inverness Lanes," Petaluma police said Wednesday in a news release. "In both vehicle thefts, the vehicles were left unlocked with the keys inside.

Police are reviewing security-camera footage in an effort to identify the thieves. Surveillance video obtained from residents shows suspects checking for unlocked car doors as they walked from house to house, according to police.
