Coroner Identifies Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car In Petaluma
The fatal crash happened Sunday on North McDowell Boulevard.
PETALUMA, CA — The Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner's Office on Wednesday identified a pedestrian fatally struck by a car Sunday in Petaluma as Pedro Gonzalez Martinez, 60, of Petaluma.
At 12:42 p.m. Sunday, officers with the Petaluma Police Department were handling an unrelated incident at 333 N. McDowell Blvd. when a driver tried to exit the property and hit Martinez.
"As the vehicle turned onto N. McDowell Blvd, it struck a pedestrian causing the pedestrian to fall backward, striking his head on the roadway," Petaluma police Sgt. Walt Spiller said.

Officers heard the collision and responded within seconds, providing medical aid to Martinez until Petaluma Fire Department paramedics arrived.
Martinez was rushed by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he died from injuries suffered in the crash.

Petaluma PD's Traffic Team responded to investigate and determine the cause of the crash.
"According to officers and witnesses at the scene, this was a slow-speed collision," Spiller said.
