Drive-By Shooting In Unincorporated Sonoma Co. Under Investigation

A bullet was found lodged in a bedroom closet.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drive-by shooting into a residence in unincorporated Sonoma County south of Santa Rosa Thursday night.

Deputies found several shell casings in the street and beer cans in the gutter when they responded to the 10:10 p.m. shooting in the 1100 block of Santa Barbara Drive, sheriff’s Sgt. Cecile Focha said.

One of the bullets went inside a residence and lodged in the wall of a closet in a bedroom that was occupied by the family’s young teenage son, Focha said. No one was injured and police recovered the bullet.

The family did not appear to be the intended target of the shooting, Focha said. Santa Rosa police helped canvass the neighborhood. Residents in the area gave different accounts of the shooting, the description of the suspected vehicle, its occupants and the number of shots heard, Focha said.

Some said men were hanging around outside the house and drinking beer when shots were fired from a vehicle that sped away, and others said they heard a profanity-laced argument just before shots were fired, Focha said.

It appears more than five shots were heard, no one actually saw a gun and nobody could provide a physical description of the involved parties, Focha said.

Deputies contacted several gang members and conducted a probation search of the house where the likely involved suspects were reported to be hanging out before the shooting, Focha said. Deputies did not find any violations at the residence, Focha said.
