Man Suspected Of Hitting Child In Petaluma Crosswalk Drove Home: PPD

A driver suspected of hitting a child on a scooter crossing a street and fleeing was arrested for possible DUI: PPD

PETALUMA, CA — Police arrested a man suspected of hitting a child crossing a street on Thursday afternoon.

Petaluma police received multiple 911 calls shortly after 4 p.m. reporting a vehicle had hit a 10-year-old at Washington and Howard streets.

Witnesses said the driver drove away from the area on Bodega Avenue, but they gave police the car's license plate number.

Officers found the child with minor injuries. Petaluma Fire took him to a hospital. He is expected to recover.

Officers used the license plate to locate the suspected driver at a nearby residence. According to a police news statement, the man admitted to hitting the child and driving away. Police arrested and booked him into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police said it appears the child was walking in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
