Driver Leads Cops On High-Speed Chase From Santa Rosa To Petaluma: PD

The pursuit which reached speeds ranging from 70 mph on city streets to 115 mph on the freeway came to an end at Petaluma Boulevard North.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — No injuries were reported when a driver led law enforcement officers on a 20-mile pursuit Saturday night from Santa Rosa to Petaluma, Santa Rosa police said.

The chase started at 9:26 p.m. Saturday when an officer assigned to a special DUI enforcement detail saw a silver Ford sedan speeding on Guerneville Road and Lance Drive in Santa Rosa and tried to stop the driver, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Charlie La Sala said.

As the driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued, multiple officers assisted in the incident that spanned a large portion of southwest Santa Rosa — reaching speeds of 70 mph on city streets, the sergeant said.

When the driver — later identified as Ivin Prince, 33, of San Leandro — merged onto southbound U.S. Highway 101 south, the chase reached speeds of 115 mph and SRPD asked for assistance from the California Highway Patrol, La Sala said.

"Luckily there was light traffic as the pursuit continued south on 101 through Rohnert Park and Cotati," La Sala said. "A CHP unit stationed themselves at the northern end of Petaluma and was able to safely deploy spike strips on the suspect vehicle as it drove by."

With the two front tires of his car flattened, Prince took the Petaluma Boulevard North exit and yielded to law enforcement.

He was taken into custody without further incident and officers learned he was on Post Release Community Supervision for a previous conviction of felony evasion with a vehicle.

Prince was booked into Sonoma County jail and Santa Rosa police thanked the CHP for helping bring the pursuit to a safe end.

Prince remained in custody late Tuesday with his bail set at $45,000, jail records showed.
