PETALUMA, CA — A motorist accused of hitting a 10-year-old pedestrian was arrested for hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol, Petaluma police said Friday.

The child was struck about 4:12 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Washington and Howard streets, police said.

Witnesses provided the fleeing vehicle's license plate to police, who traced it to the address of the registered owner.

Ron Jones, 63, of Petaluma was accused of felony DUI with a blood alcohol level of more than .08% and felony hit and run with injury, police said.

A preliminary investigation showed the child was walking in a marked crosswalk when he was struck. They were expected to fully recover.
