Dunham Elementary Students Think Outside the Box for Cardboard Challenge

Students took part in a Cardboard Challenge Day, where creativity is the most critical construction tool.

PETALUMA, CA - Students at Dunham Elementary School competed in Cardboard Challenge Day Wednesday, an event presented by the Imagination Foundation.

The challenge requires kids to utilize cardboard donated by parents and local businesses in building whatever their imagination can conjure. Students must think outside the box and work together to make something worthwhile.

The layout of the day is two-fold, with “tribes” first meeting in the morning before lunch to think up an idea for using the cardboard. After lunch things really kick off, when students make their idea a tangible reality.

The day is inspired by the 2012 documentary “Caine’s Arcade,” wherein a young boy created his own arcade out of various cardboard boxes. The idea is meant to grow a number of different skills in children, with the most important being their creativity.
