Encampment Fire Erupts At Steamer Landing Park In Petaluma
The blaze was generating heavy smoke and causing traffic congestion, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — An encampment fire that erupted Wednesday morning at Steamer Landing Park in Petaluma was contained to the parking lot area, authorities said shortly after 9 a.m.
Petaluma police along with the Petaluma Fire Department responded to the blaze that was generating heavy smoke and causing traffic congestion along D Street, from Lakeville Street to 1st Street.
"Heavy smoke, a large number of emergency vehicles and emergency personnel are causing traffic congestion in the area," Petaluma police said.

In an update at 9 a.m., Petaluma police said firefighters successfully contained the fire to the parking lot area.
"Currently, there are no threats of spreading to any structures, or wildland areas," police said. "Petaluma Fire Department crews and Police personnel remain on scene to monitor the contained fire and conduct an investigation into what caused the fire."

The parking lot at Steamer Landing Park remained closed but all other roadways were open, police said.
"Expect smoke and emergency vehicles to remain in the area and if possible, please avoid the area."
