Please join us for Henry Washer's first solo show!
"To mark my 21st birthday, I decided to produce a body of work for my
first solo art show. This show is about exploring questions that I face
as a young man growing and entering the world. I am drawn to wood
carving as my main medium because i enjoy dealing with a material that
yields consequences, if not done carefully, and the romance of creating
art through the process of destruction. I have always been interested
in mechanics of any sort. The irrefutable cause and effects of
machinery provide a safe haven for me in a world where almost nothing
is straightforward. For this show, I chose my subjects to be things
that i can physically see or touch, because the life in front of me is
my greatest influence. For me, a picture or video is never enough to
capture a scene or event and i want my art to share that. In this
modern world, a lot is simplified to fit on a computer screen, I strive
for my pieces to have a tangible interactive quality that is impossible
to reduce to pixels. Each piece is created with some sort of unique
aspect or challenge to it, making for an one of a kind experience ."
"This show is dedicated to my sister Phoebe, a shining star who taught
me about life, art, and the importance of being good."
