I am the Liberty 4-H project leader for the only beekeeping project in Sonoma County. Our members are enthusiastic young beekeepers who not only keep bees but educate the public as often as possible. On May 17th from 3:30 to 5 p.m. they will be doing a community service by placing yellow dots on all the bee friendly plants at EverMay Garden Center, 301 Wilson St. Petaluma. This is the second year they have done this and are really excited about doing it again. The yellow dots are supplied by the not-for-profit Yellow Dot Project that started here in Sonoma County. More about it can be seen at www.yellowdotproject.org. The 4-H members will also have an observation hive there to show the public what a working beehive looks like. They are very eager to talk to anyone about what the bees are doing and what they need to survive. They hope lots of people drop in that afternoon and are inspired to help the honey bees.
