                          Jennifer Mygatt Tatum

Like many artists, I draw on my life experiences to communicate images in my art work. Through the female and vessel form, with the addition of color, I express different aspects of human nature that reside in all of us. There is an emotional turmoil in which all people swim. It is juxtaposed to a place of simplicity and joy available for people to reside in.  The path to happiness is a straight clear path surrounded by tempting chaos. Through my work I hope to express the inherent value to all emotions evoked along the way.

I primarily monoprint and create photo transfer work from my photography. My monoprinting process begins with a very loose series of gestural sketches.  Once I achieve the baseline sketch I plan my color palette.  Colors are rolled onto plexiglass then drawn into with various instruments.  The sheet of plexiglass is printed off, re-inked, and printed again, sometimes up to fifteen runs through the press. I finish my work off by adhering the paper to plywood then sealing it with epoxy resin.

I live and work in Petaluma.  My work can be seen in Petaluma and around the Bay Area.
