The Whole Hog

The Whole Hog – A Puerto Rican Style Pig Roast  We are thrilled to announce that our very own resident chef, Shane Valentine, is back to launch our inaugural Memorial Day Pig Roast- Puerto Rican style!  If you were at our recent Joel Salatin event, or the last Pumpkins on Pikes, you have already met Shane and tasted his farm fresh cuisine.  Shane is also part of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution team and one of his Bay Area ambassadors.  Jamie Oliver’s food revolution is more than a TV show- it’s about creating communities and celebrating real food together.  We like to say Jamie and Tara Firma Farms are a match made in Hog Heaven

The Low-down At 6:00 am on Sunday May 27, Tara Firma Pasture Raised Pig* will start to cook over an open flame on a spit.  We supply the main course, succulent pig, and you bring your favorite side dish to share that serves 6-8, your own plates and flatware, whatever else you feel like nibbling on and of course BYOB! We figure we’ll be ready to chow down between around 6 or 7 but come on down to the farm early…The whole day will be a celebration with live music, barnyard games and good old fashioned hanging out on the farm!  To make sure everyone gets their fill of tasty pork we have to limit the guest list to 150 adults (kids under 12 are free, surcharge for teen age boys). We strongly recommend that you reserve your spot today so you don’t miss out on what is sure to become the Bay Area’s Must Do event on Memorial Day weekend.  (click here)

Red, White & Blue A few weeks ago at the farm Joel Salatin said “all life must sacrifice itself so life can continue to live.”  In the spirit of Memorial Day Weekend we would like to humbly honor our fallen service men and women so please wear something Red, White and/or Blue.  Without waxing philosophical (save that for some BYOB beverages) we’ll also honor our pig and toast to him with deep gratitude.

More information, including a schedule of the days events and recipe ideas, is coming but we wanted to get let you know about this shin-dig right away. What better way to celebrate local food than to enjoy a “staycation” this Memorial Day weekend and picnic on your farm
