presents The Wood Brothers and Carsie Blanton
For The Wood Brothers, the blues offer solace from downheartedness; there's a soulful quality in their work that grows increasingly compelling (and comforting), the more familiar their songs become. In 2009, The Wood Brothers released an EP of carefully crafted covers called Up Above My Head. The mini-album features the brothers pared down to their original duo format,
covering works from The Beatles' "Fixing a Hole" to Steve Earle's "Mystery Train Pt 2." The Wood Brothers continue to tour extensively (most recently supporting k.d. Lang, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers and Levon Helm) and are gathering material for their next studio record.
Carsie Blanton is a young singer-songwriter who grew up in rural Virginia and landed in Philadelphia in fall of 2006. Since then, her soulful, playful, intelligent music has earned her national respect. In her brief time as a performing songwriter, Carsie has shared the stage with nationally hailed acts Amos Lee, Bruce Hornsby, Nellie McKay and John Oates, and frequented noteworthy venues from The Birchmere (Alexandria, VA) to the Hotel Café (Los Angeles, CA). Since 2008, Carsie has toured with Joan Osborne, Loudon Wainwright III, and The Wood Brothers.
