Have you ever admired one of those beautiful, artistically sculpted outdoor benches and seats? They’re built of cob, and you can learn how to make them at the Cavanagh Center in Petaluma from Janine Björnson of Clay, Bones and Stones. Cob is an ancient earthen construction material made from clay, sand and straw. Used worldwide, cob construction allows you to use locally available materials so you don’t have to spend money on costly imported materials, plus it makes good ecological sense. Cob is completely natural, non-toxic and can be done by almost anyone. We’ll cover key techniques – foundation, materials, mixing and building – as well as having some serious do-gooding fun getting muddy. It’s part of the Cavanagh Community Center Workshop Series.
