Merchants urged to inspect all suspicious looking bills by comparing with others of same denomination

Petaluma merchants are being warned about a rash of counterfeit bills that have been circulating in the community over the past several months, according to an article in Thursday’s Argus Courier.

There have been four incidents of fake money over the summer, including two $100 bills that were handed over at and two at . At both places, cashiers were able to identify the bills as fake and not accept them or recognize the woman who is suspected to be behind the counterfeit currency.

She is described as a heavy-set, middle aged woman with long, dark hair and braces and wearing blue hospital scrubs.

Merchants can avoid being duped by placing suspicious bills next to others of the same denomination and see how they compare, according to the article. The most commonly counterfeited currency is a $20 bill.
