Felon Brandishes Gun In Downtown Petaluma Bar: Police

Officers responded and retrieved a loaded, unregistered Glock pistol, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — A Petaluma man was arrested late Saturday night when he reportedly pulled out a gun at a downtown Petaluma bar and pointed it at someone, police said.

At 11:58 p.m., the Petaluma Police Department received a report that someone brandished a gun at an establishment in the 100 block of Kentucky Street, Petaluma police Lt. Nick McGowan said.

"Officers responded to the bar, and numerous patrons identified Jonathan Sawyers as the subject with the firearm," McGowan said. "Officers detained Sawyers without incident and retrieved a Glock pistol from his back pocket. The firearm was loaded and unregistered."

Sawyers, 37, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in public, possession of an unregistered firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, McGowan said.

"The Petaluma Police Department wants to thank the reporting party and community members who assisted the officers in identifying Sawyers, locating the firearm, and removing a firearm before it was used in a violent crime."
