PETALUMA, CA — A fire Friday morning at a 7-Eleven in Petaluma damaged a fence but firefighters extinguished the blaze out before it spread into the store or to any neighboring buildings.

The Petaluma Fire Department was dispatched at 9:51 a.m. Friday to a structure fire reported at 7-Eleven, 124 Petaluma Blvd. South.

Two engine crews, a ladder truck crew and two ambulance crews were at the scene within five minutes, Petaluma Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Medeiros said.

The first fire crew to arrive saw flames behind the convenience store and upon further investigation confirmed the blaze posed a threat to surrounding fences and the building itself, Medeiros said.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire prior to it extending into the interior of any of the adjacent structures," Medeiros said. "Estimate damages were $20,000 to the exterior of the building, including the fence that separates property lines."
