PETALUMA, CA — A fire broke out at a two-story Petaluma home but was contained to the garage, according to the Petaluma Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 8:03 p.m. in the 900 block of Hogwarts Circle and firefighters were on scene within 5 minutes, Acting Petaluma FD Battalion Chief Jude Prokop said in a news release.
Crews were met with smoke and flames coming from the garage of the home but the fire sprinkler system activated and contained the fire to the garage.

PG&E and the city's Building Department assessed the situation and allowed the residents to remain in the home after the fire, as it was contained to the garage, Prokop said.
The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Monday.
Estimated damages were limited to $5,000 -$10,000.
"Thankfully, due to the fire sprinkler activation and a quick response from fire crews, fire damage was minimal," Prokop said. "This also contributed to having no injuries to the occupants or first responders during this event."
Prokop said the incident was an excellent example of how a sprinkler system can not only save lives but minimize damage to a home.
"Please remember to have alarm and sprinkler systems checked and tested on a regular basis," he said. "Don't hesitate to contact the Petaluma Fire Department if you need assistance or guidance."
