The homeowner was trying to extinguish the flames with a garden hose when crews arrived and doused the remainder of the fire.
PETALUMA, CA — No injuries were reported in a fire that broke out Saturday in a detached two-story garage in Petaluma.
Firefighters were dispatched at 7 p.m. Saturday to a report of a structure fire in the 100 block of 7th Street — near C Street— and arrived within 3 minutes, Petaluma Fire Department Battalion Chief Kevin Weaver said.
Moderate smoke was coming from a garage located behind the main residence, and the homeowner was trying to extinguish the fire with a garden hose.

"Crews worked quickly to extinguish the remainder of the fire after ensuring no one was inside and the homeowner was safely out of the way," Weaver said. "Luckily, there were no injuries to firefighters or occupants of the property."
Weaver said it was a good thing the residents were home, which expedited notification to the fire department.

"This quick notification and response from the fire department made for quick extinguishment of the fire keeping it to a small portion of the garage, and out of the home," he said.
PG&E responded and isolated the garage from electrical power while maintaining power to the home.
Estimated damages were near $5,000, with hundreds of thousands of valued assets saved with the quick extinguishment of the fire, Weaver said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
The Petaluma Fire Department thanked the Rancho Adobe Fire District for its partnership during the incident.
