Hang Onto Your Umbrella! Wind Advisory Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the San Francisco Bay Area.

The advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. today for the entire Bay Area including all of the East Bay, especially at higher elevations.

An advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected and winds that strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, according to weather officials.

“Crossing bridges can be a little bit trickier when there are strong winds,” said NWS forecaster Duane Dykema.

Also, there is a potential for winds to blow down trees that knock down power lines and cause power outages. Dykema reminds people to be prepared for outages.

The weather service expects sustained southerly winds of 20 to 40 mph during the advisory period. Gusts of up to 50 mph are possible and higher gusts are possible in higher elevations.
