Help PJHS Hold Challenge Day

School is desperately seeking adult volunteers for its anti-bullying program, scheduled for Tuesday, May 8

Challenge Day is an anti-bullying program many local schools hold at various times throughout the school year. It's a series of exercises that teach middle school students to appreciate each others' differences and see that they there is more to someone besides their dress size, glasses or skin color.

The program also tackles conflict management, suicide, peer pressure, alcohol and drugs.

But unless four more volunteers are found by this weekend, Petaluma Junior High School will have to turn 80 students away from Challenge Day, scheduled for May 8.

"As a school, we have found Challenge Day to be invaluable--both as a way to creat empathy among our students and as a way to reduce the bullying behavior that we see at this age level," says Nancy Emanuele, assistant vice principal at Petaluma Junior High.

The school needs a 4 to 1 ratio of students to adults to make the program work and is calling on the community for help. If you or someone you know is interested in participating, please contact Nancy Emanuele at 778-4724 or by emailing her nemanuele@pet.k12.ca.us
