Help PJHS Hold Challenge Day

Challenge Day is an anti-bullying program many local schools hold at various times throughout the school year. It's a series of exercises that teach middle school students to appreciate each others' differences and see that they there is more to someone besides their dress size, glasses or skin color.

The program also tackles conflict management, suicide, peer pressure, alcohol and drugs.

But unless four more volunteers are found by this weekend, Petaluma Junior High School will have to turn 80 students away from Challenge Day, scheduled for May 8.

"As a school, we have found Challenge Day to be invaluable--both as a way to creat empathy among our students and as a way to reduce the bullying behavior that we see at this age level," says Nancy Emanuele, assistant vice principal at Petaluma Junior High.
