NORTH BAY, CA — Another atmospheric river may bring more rain next week to the North Bay and Bay Area, forecasters with the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area said Wednesday.

But first: rain was expected to move through the Bay Area later Wednesday, arriving in the North Bay around 9 p.m. then moving south and east through the rest of the Bay Area. The North Bay could see up to a half-inch of rain locally and up to 1 inch in the mountains, according to the weather service. By mid-morning Thursday, chances of rain diminish.

"Quiet weather returns on Friday and continues into the weekend, with chances of showers in North Bay," forecasters said. "Rain chances increase early next week across the region, with a more impactful atmospheric river-type event later Monday and Tuesday."

Another weak system may bring a few showers to the North Bay late Friday night and Saturday, with rainfall amounts under a tenth of an inch.

"The brief break in shower activity will be shortlived as the next round of rain arrives on Sunday," forecasters said. "All models agree that by Sunday night into Monday a much deeper plume of moisture begins to take aim at California."

Moisture in this atmospheric river could be associated with the decayed typhoon, Malou that drenched the Western Pacific.

Timing for when this "weak to lower-end moderate atmospheric river" may hit the Bay Area varies, but as of Wednesday afternoon, forecasters said Monday and Tuesday look wetter.

"Still far out to nail down rainfall amounts, but a good soaking rain is likely," forecasters said. "Will say though, this is not the atmospheric river from October. Just a more beneficial rain for the region."
