House Fire Displaces 3 Petaluma Residents, Dog
Firefighters arrived to find bystanders treating one of the home's occupants for a medical emergency.

PETALUMA, CA — A fire broke out Tuesday night inside an east Petaluma home, displacing three residents and their dog. Firefighters aboard five Petaluma Fire Department engines responded to the blaze, which was reported at about 9:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Adrienne Drive, Petaluma fire Battalion Chief Mike Medeiros said in a news release.
Smoke and flames were coming from the front of a one-story home as the first engine crews arrived on scene. Across the street, bystanders were treating one the occupants of the home who suffered a medical emergency, Medeiros said.
As the first arriving crew began an offensive attack of the fire, the first arriving medical unit treated the resident, the battalion chief said.

The blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes of firefighters' arrival; however, the fire and smoke damaged the home to the point it was inhabitable, Medeiros said.
The patient — one of three adult occupants of the home — was transported to Petaluma Valley Hospital for further care, Medeiros said, not disclosing the nature of the person's medical emergency.

American Red Cross responded to help facilitate shelter for the displaced residents and their dog.
The cause of the fire was still being investigated, Medeiros said in a news release sent just after midnight.
The battalion chief noted that while Petaluma Fire Department resources were committed to the incident, the city's fire stations were covered by crews with cooperating agencies including Wilmar Fire, San Antonio Fire, Sonoma Valley Fire Authority and Lakeville Fire.
