Inmate Found Dead At Sonoma County Jail

The suspected suicide is under investigation.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent inmate suicide that occurred at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Center in Santa Rosa Sunday.

An inmate alerted correctional deputies at 8:20 a.m. he had found a fellow inmate hanging in his cell, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to the inmate’s cell, cut him down and administered first aid until an ambulance arrived, but the inmate was pronounced deceased at 8:43 a.m.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit and the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office responded to the jail to investigate the death.

Officials said the death appears to be a suicide by hanging, but an autopsy will be done to determine the exact cause of death. Jail officials said this is the fist suicide at the jail since April of 2013.
