BREAKING: The 59-year-old was serving a one-year sentence at the main Sonoma County jail in Santa Rosa.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- The Marin County Sheriff's Office has identified the Sonoma County Jail inmate who died in his cell Thursday morning as Michael Webster Estes, 59, of Santa Rosa. Estes was vomiting and having trouble breathing around 9:50 a.m. Thursday, Sonoma County sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Crum said.

Jail staff called for an ambulance at 9:52 a.m. and Estes became unresponsive two minutes later, Crum said.

Corrections officers started CPR and a paramedic arrived at 9:56 a.m. to assist. Estes was pronounced dead a short time later, Crum said.

The death does not appear to be a suicide and Estes was not involved in a confrontation, Crum said.

Estes pleaded guilty on June 6 to felony spousal battery that occurred on May 5, according to Sonoma County Superior Court records.

Felony false imprisonment with violence and threatening to commit a crime charges were dismissed. Estes was sentenced July 14 to one year in the Sonoma County Jail and had 141 days credit.

The Marin County Sheriff's office is investigating the death and will ensure an autopsy is completed by an outside coroner's office, Crum said.
