Today there are hundreds of homeless and at-risk youth in Petaluma who don’t have a place to sleep or a support system to help them through their crisis situation. When our Leadership Petaluma Class of 2018 heard that statistic, we knew that we needed to help. The class is proud to be joining forces with local groups to establish the Transitional Age Youth Service Alliance (TAYSA).TAYSA is a collaborative project between Mentor Me, The Salvation Army (Petaluma Corps) and Petaluma People Services Center. With the help of community partners, including Leadership Petaluma, the TAYSA Community Center will open on the East Side of Petaluma and focus on servicing at-risk transitional aged youth (ages 16-24), primarily those who are frequently homeless, unemployed and/or out of school. TAYSA will collectively address basic needs such as food, clothing, housing, mental and physical health needs, and ultimately assist with education and employment. The Leadership Petaluma Class of 2018 cohort is raising a minimum of $10,000 in order to renovate a community room and three offices, utilizing space provided by the Salvation Army. More than just a remodel, we will transform the space into a one-stop shop for at-risk youth to receive the care, mentoring, counseling and case management they need to get back on their feet.To reach our goal, we are inviting you to come enjoy beer like you never have before! At Beers & Blindfolds, you’ll be led through a blind tasting of four different Lagunitas beers by Dr. Hoby Wedler of Senspoint Design, who also happens to be a member of our Leadership Petaluma Class of 2018. In this one-of-a-kind tasting, you will walk through several aroma samples common in beer before smelling, tasting, and engaging in in-depth discussions of each beer. This mind-opening experience is sure to change the way you think about beer and expand your concept of taste. Put on a blindfold and be mesmerized by beer! In addition to the blind beer tasting, there will be food, a live auction, and an opportunity to learn more about TAYSA from project member Deborah Dalton, the Executive Director of Mentor Me.
